“Buddham Sharanam Gachhami “
I go to the Buddha for refuge
“Dhammam Sharanam Gachhami”
I go to the Dhamma for refuge
“Sangham Sharanam Gachhami”
I go to the Sangha for refuge
Buddha is the one who takes us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of wisdom. Dhamma is the Here and Now
Sangha means a community without which awakening is not possible.
This 10 minute active meditation technique is a simple yet powerful technique to increase the sharpness and concentration of the brain. This technique aligns the three fires of the body, that is, the fire of the belly or Jatharagni, the fire of desire, Kamagni and the fire of knowledge, gyanagni. It also balances both solar and lunar plexuses in the body thereby activating the left and the right brain. The right brain is connected with the lunar plexus and the left brain with the solar plexus.
Stand straight with both feet parallel to one another. The distance between the feet should be as much as is in between our shoulders. As the mantra is played, the right foot is lifted to be placed half way ahead of the left. Each foot is lifted alternately with each word. Just as a mason places a brick right in the middle of the two bricks underneath, so are the feet placed. The science behind this is that the wall built will only be strong if placed in this manner. If we place the bricks exactly on top of the one underneath, the wall wouldn’t have the desired strength. Similarly the energy in the body will be balanced thereby activating both the solar and lunar plexuses alternately. With the first three words: Buddham Sharanam Gachhami, we will take three steps ahead and with the next three words: Dhammam Sharanam Gachhami, we will move three steps backwards. And continue in this order till the music stops.
The eyes have to concentrate on the feet, no blinking of eyes. The saliva has to be retained in the mouth till the end of the prayog which will then be taken in with a resolve.
The technique cleanses the body of fear to arouse a state of Abhaya or no fear by awakening the right brain. The left brain or the logical mind can only help suppress fear. The journey of self discovery only starts with courage. Our roots have to be strong as also our brain.
